NEWS/PHOTOCALLMONDAY, 4 AUGUST, 10.45AMCHAUCER ROAD, NEW ENGLAND, PETERBOROUGHHOME ZONE MAKES GOOD PROGRESSPeterborough MP Helen Clark will be visiting the Chaucer Road area of NewEngland on Monday, 4 August, at 10.45 am to look at progress so far onPeterborough's Home Zone. Accompanying her on the brief tour will be Mark Stevens, the city council'sHead of Transport and Engineering, and the two local Ward Councillors, DeputyMayor Councillor Charles Swift and Councillor Keith Sharp together with localrepresentatives of the Homezone Steering Group. Construction work on the Home Zone scheme - the largest in the country - isprogressing well and the area is beginning to be significantly transformed. A Home Zone is a street or group of streets that residents have decided thatcyclists and pedestrians - particularly children - have priority, not fastmoving cars. Mark Stevens, Transport and Engineering for the city council, said,"Local residents seem happy with how their local environment is changing.The New England Home Zone is one of only two of the nine original pilot HomeZone schemes to receive Department for Transport "Home Zone Challenge"funding. Representatives of the Department for Transport recently visited theworks and were both pleased and impressed with how the work is proceeding." End.
