Safety at Sports Grounds
As a unitary authority the Council has, since 1 April 1997,
been responsible for issuing safety certificates for sports grounds
under the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975 and the Fire Safety and
Safety at Places of Sport Act 1987.
In Peterborough, this involves the London Road ground, home of
Peterborough United FC, under the 1975 Act and 'regulated stands'
at the Greyhound Stadium and the East of England Showground under
the 1987 Act.
Before 1997 Cambridgeshire County Council carried out the work
involved in the administration of these Acts consulting the City
Council as the 'building authority' when necessary. The Building
Control Service carries out a programme of continuous inspection
and monitoring of the sports grounds to make sure the terms and
conditions of the safety certificates are complied with.
In addition we also issue any amendment or renewal certificates.
