Prevention
Research shows that the most effective way of preventing
young people from offending is by intervening early through
evidence-based programmes. The prevention programme is centered
around a co-ordinated city-wide youth crime prevention
strategy, involving statutory partners like schools,
the youth service and partners from the voluntary
sector. Together they provide early interventions
that steer young people away from crime and toward positive
activities. Initiatives include the YMCA's Youth Inclusion Project
(YIP), Safer Schools Partnerships, Transitions Projects and other
Children's Fund initiatives.
