Referral Orders
Young people who commit their first offence and plead guilty
at court are likely to be sentenced to a Referral
Order. The aim is to address the offending
behaviour of the young person and help to reduce their risk of
re-offending. The programme will include an element of reparation
work, i.e. work in the community to recompense for the offending
behaviour. The work may also include reparation directly to the
victim, for example in the form of a letter of apology.
