Andrew Longworth - Collections Assistant (part-time)
I started at the museum in December 2006 as one of the collections team. My main role is to enhance accessibility to the collections by improving both the storage methods and documentation levels of our items. Much of my time is spent in the basement wrapping and packing items to archival standards and adding object information onto our database system. I also supervise a number of volunteers. My background is in history and I am happy to answer any enquiries from the public, especially relating to social history artefacts they may wish to know more about.
I studied history and philosophy at Stirling University before doing a Masters in Museum Studies at Newcastle. Previously I worked in a natural history museum in Newcastle helping to prepare it for a major renovation.

I work at the weekends and also part of the time during the week doing a variety of different things from paying the bills to greeting the public, and teaching our schools sessions on topics from dinosaurs to Victorian homes, and many more in between!
I used to teach full time in a primary school, but museum teaching is what I've always wanted to do! I am studying for an MA in Museum Studies with the University of Leicester, which is taking up most of my spare time, and giving me an excuse to visit lots of museums!
