
Who we are!
The Museum has a dedicated and enthusiastic team who are here to bring Peterborough's heritage alive for the public and safeguard our collections for the future. Our current team is:
Gillian Barclay - Learning & Heritage Services ManagerMy role is to provide leadership and management for the
Heritage Service, and I consider myself privileged to work in
such a fantastic historic building and with a wonderfully talented
and creative team of staff and volunteers. Our mission is to
provide a Heritage Service of excellence for Peterborough and to
get the people of Peterborough 'Hooked on Heritage'. My passion is
learning and I strongly believe in the public role that the
museum's have in today's society. My background is in learning
although my degree is in linguistics and Language Pathology and I
studied fine art in Antwerp, Belgium, although more recently I've
begun undertaking Trialathlons!

Glenys Wass - Collections & Interpretation ManagerMy role is to manage the collections and exhibitions team. Our team ensures that the c.200,000 objects are cared for correctly, and that they are accesible for everyone to see and enjoy through exhibitions, research, events and education sessions. I have a Geology and Geography degree from Keele University and an MSc in Museum Studies from Leicester University. My background is in geological conservation, and have up-close experience of rosks through rock climbing! |

Stuart Orme - Visitor Services & Marketing ManagerMy role is to manage the Visitor Service team and ensure that the public get the best visit possible, as well as organise our wide and varied range of events, tours and walks - including our famed ghost tours - and to publicise and promote the museum. Part of my job is also to do audience research to find out what you would like from us. I studied History at the University of York, then became a
secondary history teacher. I've recently completed an MA in Museum
Studies at Leicester University. In what little spare time I have I
take part in historical re-enactment events.

Ben Robinson - Historic Environment ManagerI am responsible for planning and land management advice to
ensure the protection and better understanding of our
archaeological sites and historic environment. I maintain the
Peterborough Historic Environment Record and undertake
archaeological investigation and conservation work. I have an MA
and PhD from the University of York and have worked as an
archaeologist since 1989. My interests centre on East Anglian
archaeology, particularly the Fenland region. I hold a Private
Pilot's Licence and when not immersed in archaeology on the
ground, I like to take photos of it from the air.

Pam Russell - Education & Learning ManagerI've been involved with the Museum for a number of years as a
freelance teacher an educator, then Education officer, and am now
responsible for managing and developing our Education
service. I work with the many schools in Peterborough (and
beyond!) on our taught and self-directed sessions in the Museum, as
well as working to develop outreach work. We work with all ages -
adult learners can also be catered for!

Jo Robinson - Visitor Services Team LeaderVisitor Services is a great way of getting into Museum
work. It's a very varied part of the service, including
meeting and greeting, answering enquries, working with the
collections, education sessions, historic environment and
exhibitions.
Peterborough Museum is often on the look out for volunteers in
this area, so if you're interested, why not give us a call!

Sarah Wilson - Collections & Interpretation OfficerI have recently started working at Peterborough Museum and am
responsible for dealing with human history collection enquiries
which could be about anything in the collection from dresses to
glass ships! My job also includes ensuring that collections are
looked after by monitoring the humidity and temperature
regularly.
I studied Archaeology and History of Art at Queens University
Belfast and Museum Studies at the University of Leicester.
Before I began working at Peterborough I was an
Exhibition and Documentation Officer at Saffron Walden Museum in
Essex for two years.

Andrew Longworth - Collections Assistant (part-time)I started at the museum in December 2006 as one of the
collections team. My main role is to enhance accessibility to the
collections by improving both the storage methods and documentation
levels of our items. Much of my time is spent in the basement
wrapping and packing items to archival standards and adding object
information onto our database system. I also supervise a number of
volunteers. My background is in history and I am happy to answer
any enquiries from the public, especially relating to social
history artefacts they may wish to know more about.
I studied history and philosophy at Stirling University before
doing a Masters in Museum Studies at Newcastle. Previously I worked
in a natural history museum in Newcastle helping to prepare it for
a major renovation.

Karen Selby - Exhibitions Officer (part-time)I am take on the challenge of organising the Museum's programme of temporary exhibitions, which given our large exhibition space is quite a challenge! I also help with locating objects and information for research and displays. I studied History of Art at Norwich University, and Gallery
Studies at Essex University. My first museum post was In
Warrington, where I worked for a year to research the 50-year
history of an American Airbase and produce a six-month
exhibition.

Lynne Bridger - Education & Learning Officer (part-time)/ Museum Officer (part-time)Having 2 different jobs at the museum means I'm here most of
the time! I work at the weekends and also part of the time during
the week doing a variety of different things from paying the bills
to greeting the public, and teaching our schools sessions on topics
from dinosaurs to Victorian homes, and many more in between!
I used to teach full time in a primary school, but museum
teaching is what I've always wanted to do! I am studying for an MA
in Museum Studies with the University of Leicester, which is taking
up most of my spare time, and giving me an excuse to visit lots of
museums!

Andy Stainton-Roberts - Museum Officer (part-time)I'm part of the front of house team, dealing with
members of the public and ensuring they have as good a visit as
possible, as well as helping put up exhibitions and events, so I
can spend a day building Captain Hook's pirate ship for
example!
In my spare time I have a great interest in Second World War
aircraft - including helping restore a Lancaster Bomber, and doing
Living History events.

David Savory - Museum Officer (on the left)I joined the museum team two years ago as a Museum Officer. Having worked in libraries previously I greatly enjoy the wide range of experiences working at the Museum offers. I love history and have worked at Flag Fen previously, as I'm really interested in archaeology. In my spare time I am a keen photographer - Fenland-photography |
