The Friends of the Museum
The Friends of Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery organise
events and activities including lunchtime lectures and a
newsletter, 'Musings'.
These events and activities help promote
the work of the museum, and help raise funds for the purchase of
new items for the collections. Recent such acquisitions
have included a Norman Cross portrait (right)
and a manuscript written by John Clare, which have proved
valuable additions to the collection. The money was raised via the
"Martin Howe Lecture', which is an annual event organised by the
friends.Currently the Friends are launching a 'Centurions' scheme to
raise funds for an outdoor space and children's play area at the
Museum.
The Friends lunchtime lectures comprise monthly talks open to
all on subjects of historical, local or general interest, with a
buffet lunch provided. We have a current programme of lunchtime
lectures.
