Victorian Drama
Museum education projects button Last Autumn Term we collaborated with Adam Peacock, Jane Bower and Jane Williams to deliver a new style of programme for Peterborough Museum: with these established actors we created a Victorian drama based on the lives of 2 real families living in Peterborough at the time of the 1851 Census.  The project was funded via MLA East of England as part of their Learning Links scheme and we liaised with both The Phoenix and Heltwate Special Schools.  This project, which linked with our Summer exhibition "What the Victorians did for us", was a huge success as well as being very enjoyable.  We used several areas of the museum dressed as different rooms in both a rich and a poor house in Victorian Peterborough.  Because we used several spaces we are unable to offer this as a usual session, but we are hoping to create focus weeks every year to enable schools to participate in it when studying the Victorians.

Talk to the Animals
This year we have been involved in a partnership project with Stoke Museums Service concerning communication among under 5s.  This has resulted in the development of four boxes with activities inside especially for under 5s and their families to enjoy.   These are located in the permanent galleries and we plan to add to them and develop more.  We have also developed a trail for under 5s and their families inspired by the wonderful and interesting objects on display all around the museum.

Light Galileo
In spring 2007 we offered schools the chance to meet the famous scientist and inventor Galileo here at Peterborough Museum.  He worked with budding scientists and inventors to test out his latest theories.
