Parenting Programme
Peterborough Youth Offending Service provides parenting
programmes for parents of young offenders. Parents wishing to
attend are referred to the parenting support co-ordinator by the
Youth Offending Service officers, including the Final Warnings officer.
Approximately 70% of referred parents attend on a voluntary
basis, the remaining 30% are referred via the courts having been
given parenting court orders.
Parenting programmes include the "Living with Teenagers"
course run by Relate, one to one sessions with a Relate counsellor,
work with Parentline Plus, general support and signposting, Family
Group Conferencing and specific work for parents from ethnic
minority groups.
The Living with Teenagers programme includes,
getting to know other parents in same situation, identifying skills
and strengths, parenting styles, coping with stress, dealing with
arguments and conflict, how to set boundaries and how to negotiate.
One to one sessions will cover the same topics.
