How can the Youth Offending Service support me?
If you have committed a serious offence and have not been
granted bail, offend whilst on bail or breach your bail conditions,
the police may decide to hold you in the cells until the next
available court date.
The Youth Offending Service assess all young people who are
held in the cells to determine their needs
and the risk they present to the public, themselves and of
re-offending. During this process Youth Offending Service officer
will endeavour to ensure that suitable accommodation is available
should the young person
be offered bail.
The Youth Offending Service can also offer additional support
whilst the young person is on bail. The court can make it a
condition of bail that the young person complies with this
programme of support. As part of this programme, appointments will
be offered at least three times a week and will address
issues of accommodation, education, employment and training
and substance misuse. The aim of this programme is to prevent
further offending whilst the young person is on bail.
