Traffic Regulation Orders - Consultations

How they affect you

Any of the previously mentioned types of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) have to go through a procedure of consulation to allow those affected to comment, before any order can legally take effect.

Who we consult

The requirements are set out in The Local Authorities' Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations approved by Parliament.  The most recent version was made in 1996, although some aspects of older versions are still relevant.

Those who must be consulted about proposed Traffic Orders are:

  • The emergency services
  • The Freight Transport Association and the Road Haulage Association
  • Public transport operators whose services would be directly affected
  • Others representing organisations where appropriate
  • Residents / owners of properties directly affected.

Please see the below document for further details on TRO procedures and consultation processes.

Consultation with you

A consultation period of 21 days from the date of publication is allowed for anyone who wishes to comment on the proposals to do so in writing.

To assist with the consultation process and to allow members of the public to comment easily on TROs that may affect them, you will find on the pages detailed below a list of our current consultations and all additional information.

New - Make comments online Online consultation image

On each TRO information page you will see a link that will take you to our user friendly comments form.  Here you can tell us your comments and opinions easily whilst you are online, and these will be fed into our TRO Consultation database.  All written comments (if a formal consultation) will be taken into consideration when the final decision about how to proceed is taken by the Head of Transport & Engineering, on behalf of the Council.
