Motorists fear petrol contamination
Peterborough City Council Trading Standards Service has
received a number of enquiries from motorists who are concerned
that contaminated petrol could be adversely affecting the
performance of their vehicles.
Typical problems include juddering, misfiring, and general
loss of power resulting in damage to the vehicle's oxygen
sensor.
While investigations continue, trading standards officers have
no evidence at this stage that contaminated petrol is the
cause.
Officers are advising consumers who are experiencing problems
to contact the seller of the fuel. It may also be advisable to
consider having an independent written report carried out by a
qualified mechanic. A sample of fuel should be saved in an
unused, approved petrol container.
Consumers are also advised to keep all receipts for petrol or
repairs should they need to make a claim.
For further advice on consumer rights contact Consumer Direct
on 08454 040506.
