Building Control Service Pledge
We aim to:
- Reply to letters and emails in 10 working days or acknowledge in 3 working days and tell you when to expect a full answer.
- Answer telephone calls in 10 seconds.
- Make sure you are seen within 10 minutes when you visit us.
- Check Full Plan Building Regulation applications in 15 working days and contact you within that period with any queries raised during the checking process.
- Accept Building Notice applications within 5 working days.
- Inspect your property on the same day if you call before 10:30 a.m.
- Investigate dangerous structures as soon as possible, after you report them.
- Provide easy to understand information in a suitable format.
- Respond to your needs in a polite and helpful way.

We promise to:
- Be available to help you from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday and provide an answering machine service outside office hours for all messages ( including Building Control inspection requests ). All messages will receive early attention on the next working day.
- Acknowledge or reply to your letters in plain English within 10 working days of receipt, and include name of contact person in the reply to provide further assistance if required
- Answer your calls within 10 seconds and return your call within 24 hours if we are unable to provide a satisfactory response immediately.
- Ensure that all Full Plan Building Regulation applications receive a decision within 5 weeks of receipt, except where an extension of time has been agreed in advance, in which case a decision will be issued in 2 months.
- Inform you of any amendments, alterations or additional information required to bring your Full Plans application up to standards required by the Building Regulations within 15 working days of the application being received.
- Accept Building Notices (or give notice of the reasons why we are unable to do so) within 5 days of receipt of the Notice.
- Ensure 100% of inspection requests requested before 10:30 a.m. on each working day are carried out on the date requested.
- Investigate all potentially dangerous structures within 24 hours of call being received, and take all actions necessary to protect the safety of the public.
- Deal with all notifications received concerning demolitions within 10 working days, and in doing so have regard to the safety and amenity of those who may be affected by the demolition process.
