Celebration of friendship

SATURDAY 30 JUNE AT 10AM

Join us as we celebrate the beginning of the Festival week and our twin-town relationships, including song and verse from France and
Germany. 10am, free admission at St John's Church, Cathedral Square.

 

The Mayor's Festival Procession

SATURDAY 30 JUNE AT 11AM

The colourful and exciting procession opens the Festival this year by taking the carnival atmosphere
from Bridge Street up to Central Park. Line the streets as schools and other city
groups parade their way through the city. Featuring the samba sounds of Eastern
Bloco, the quick-step of the Royal Marine VCC marching band and other colourful
entries to lead you to the afternoon of fun at Central Park.

City of Peterborough Concert Band

The City of Peterborough Concert Band was formed in 1987 and  comprises a highly dedicated and talented group of musicians from the Peterborough area.

 

In recent years the band has undertaken a number of trips to mainland Europe, and has given concerts in Germany, France and Belgium, where the band took part in the 75th anniversary commemorations of the opening of the Menin Gate in Ypres. More Information

Eastern Bloco

Eastern Bloco has been in it current format for approx 5 years. It consists of many samba bands based in the east of england [hence the name] coming together each year to perform on-mass at major events and carnivals. We perform at large events such as Luton Carnival and also smaller like Chatteris. Our music is loud, fast, high energy and fun!

Haze

The band formed about 18 months ago with Sheryl and Aaron being original members.  Changes have occurred due to people leaving to go to university as happens with many bands with members from this age group.  Nick and Will joined 12 months ago and the band has gone from strength to strength playing local venues, including the Broadway and Huntingdon Racecourse.  Although they currently play covers they are in the process of writing some original material and have recently spent time in the studio

Peterborough Community Gospel Choir

The Peterborough Community Gospel Choir was established in 2002 and has served the community in various functions. Led by Errol Ballantyne, who formed the choir and directs it, the choir has sung at old people's homes, charitable events, concerts and the East of England Showground.

Classic Harmony

Classic Harmony began in 1991 as a small mixed chorus singing traditional acapella harmony, and became a ladies only chorus in 1993.
 
Membership currently runs at around 30 members of all ages, and from all walks of life, who.all love to sing and perform.
 
They are currently ranked Fourth best small chorus in the UK. More information

X-Elle

X-Elle was born out of demand. The musicians featured in the band regularly perform together, often for shows and concerts at the Key Theatre in Peterborough. Audiences often asked if the band could be booked for functions, so X-Elle was born and, three years on, is now firmly established of the UK's leading party and function bands, performing the length and breadth of the UK. The band is led by Steve Hession, Musical Director of the Key Theatre.

TWINNING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Join in with the fun with our twin towns at the The Twinning Celebrations marquee. There will be a display of twinning events and activities and information about our wonderful twin towns. Meet famous characters from the Grimm brother's fairy tales and the Lorelei, the legend of the Rhine, hear performances of German music and songs. Play Petanque, hear The Hispanic Society of Peterborough telling stories about the fantastical legendary figure of Don Quixote. Enjoy interactive language learning, have a go at the twin town quiz for a chance to win a prize! There will also be flower arranging, street artists and performers to entertain you in style. Settle down to some fantastical storytelling, mystical magic and enchanting puppetry especially for the younger audience.

Amongst everything else, the park still has room for some fun rides for children.
