Classic Harmony
Classic Harmony is a ladies chorus specialising in four-part
unaccompanied harmony.
The chorus belongs to Sweet Adelines International, an
organisation of nearly 30,000 women from all over the world, who
enjoy singing four-part harmony in barbershop style.
Join in
Their chorus is always pleased to welcome newcomers to
rehearsals. They meet at the Orton Wistow
Community Centre, Napier Place, Orton Wistow on Tuesday evenings
from 7.30pm until 10.00pm (with the exception of the 3rd Tuesday in
the month, when they meet at St. Michael's Church Hall, Mace
Road, Stanground).
The main emphasis of their rehearsals is to enjoy quality
singing. The Musical Director, John Armstrong,
and section leaders, teach the songs with the aid of sheet music
and CDs. Whilst it is an advantage to be able to
read music, it is by no means essential. Their varied
repertoire includes songs from shows, popular music, as well as
more conventional barbershop arrangements. The chorus performs
regularly at local functions, charity events and music
festivals.
History
Classic Harmony began in 1991 as a small mixed chorus singing
traditional acapella harmony, and became a ladies only chorus in
1993, when they joined Sweet Adelines International.
Membership currently runs at around 30 members of all ages,
and from all walks of life, who.all love to sing and perform.
They meet weekly for entertainment and education, and
using the skills developed and the friendships that form around
them, they endeavour to improve both their musical ability and
presentation.
They compete annually at the UK Sweet Adelines
convention, and they are currently ranked forth best small
chorus in the UK.
