Central Park Weekend
The City of Peterborough Concert Band
The City of Peterborough Concert Band was
formed in 1987 and comprises a highly dedicated
and talented group of musicians from the Peterborough area. The
band is very popular with local authorities and has performed
Sunday afternoon concerts in many of the region's cities, towns and
villages including Peterborough, Huntingdon, Ely, St Ives, Ramsey,
Oakham and Hunstanton.
The band has a comprehensive repertoire and
is able to undertake many types of engagement, from supplying
background music for formal dinners, providing music for church
services, fetes and gala days through to performing a full scale
concert programme.
Since its formation the band has assisted a
number of local charities. In 1998 the band staged a concert (which
has become an annual event) for the Whittlesey branch of the Royal
British Legion to launch the annual poppy appeal, and provided
music for various fund raising events in Peterborough and the
surrounding districts.
In recent years the band has undertaken a number of trips to
mainland Europe, and has given concerts in Germany, France and
Belgium, where the band took part in the 75th
anniversary commemorations of the opening of the Menin Gate in
Ypres.
Membership is open to
all brass and woodwind players who possess their own instrument.
The band owns a drum kit, timpani and percussion instruments and
percussionists will also be welcome. Rehearsals are held at Oundle
Road Baptist church in Peterborough on Monday
evenings.
