Town Crier
We need a new town crier and we are looking for a suitable candidate to take on the prestigious voluntary civic role.
The competition will now be held on Friday 7
September 2007. The closing date for entries is 12 noon
Friday 24 August. The dates have been extended to allow more
people to apply during the summer holidays.
Applicants must write their own cry of up to 125 words
including three Oyez at the beginning, and the National Loyal
Declaration 'God Save The Queen!' at the end.
All cries must be non-political, non religious and in good
taste. The theme is current issues in modern day
Peterborough.
Entrants must be of good character and smart appearance. They
will be judged on the volume and clarity of their cry and their
diction and inflection.
They should also write a letter stating why they feel they
would be suitable for the role.
The town crier is not an employee of the city council. However
he or she will receive a uniform, an annual honorarium to pay for
expenses and membership of the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town
Criers.
Entries should be sent to Rachael
Gordon, media and communications officer, Peterborough City
Council, Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough, PE1 1HG.
