2008 Peterborough Children's Film Awards - Primary


What a night!

Thursday 10th July 2008 saw the third Children's

Film Awards ceremony held at the Broadway Theatre in Peterborough. A star studded night - special video link presenters included, amongst others, Michael Palin.

 

A fabulous time was had by all, with over 1000 children, teachers and special guests in the audience. The winners came on to the stage to receive their awards dressed in their finery, and had photographs taken to keep for posterity.

 

All the nominated and winning films will be available to view on these pages as soon as the 'technical stuff' is done. In the meantime if the above link dosn't work you can look at a list of the winners and runners up. Keep checking these pages the films will be available very soon.

Children's Film Awards 2008 Judging Criteria

 

Best Traditional tales

Film to include features of a Traditional Tale including:
 
  • 'Once upon a Time' style start
  • Specific Setting
  • Plot
  • Comparison of Characters
  • Sequence of events
  • Consequential outcome
 

Best Amazing Journey

Film to be a fictional experience in the past, present or in the future and should include:
 
  • Purpose of Journey and destination
  • Mode of transport
  • An event that happens during the Journey (not at the destination)
  • Impact of the event on the Journey
  • Resolution

Best Adventure

An adventure film is an exciting story with new experiences and sometimes 'exotic' locales! The film should provide an 'energetic' experience for the viewer and include:
 
  • A plot that involves risk taking and daring feats
  • A heroine or hero on a mission in which hazards are encountered
  • An event where something unforeseen happens
  • Strong ending
 

Best Science Fiction/fantasy

Science fiction films are usually scientific and imaginative sometimes involving travels or fantastic journeys set on Earth, into outer space or often in future time.  Unlike science fiction, fantasy films base their content upon some degree of scientific truth and take their audience to e.g. fairy-tale places where events are unlikely to occur in real life.  Fantasy films are often in the context of the imagination or dreams of a character and often have an element of myth, magic, wonder or the extraordinary.  The film should include:
 
  • Imaginative and /or appropriate setting
  • A plot that can be followed by the audience
  • Futuristic technology and 'gadgets' (where appropriate)

Best People Who Help

This film will be a documentary about people from the community who visit school e.g. police, fire-fighters, farmer and so forth.  It should follow the conventions of a documentary and:
 
  • Present the subject matter in a factual and informative way
  • Have an interview situation
 

Best Environmental Film

Documentary films, strictly speaking are non-fictional, "slice of life" factual works of art.  The best Environmental Film should focus on either a local, regional or global environmental issue and should:
 
  • Clearly state the issue
  • Show the cause of the issue
  • State the consequences of the issue
  • Discuss a possible resolution
 

Best Historical Documentary

This film will be about a person of event in history presenting the subject matter in a factual and informative manner.  The following should be clear to the viewer:
 
  • The impact and influence on the present that the person or event has had

Best Global Matters

Documentary films, strictly speaking are non-fictional, "slice of life" factual works of art.  'Global Matters' documentary should focus on a topic of world concern and:
 
  • Clearly state the global issue
  • Discuss the cause of the issue
  • State the potential consequences of the issue
  • Put forward a possible solution
 

Best Foreign Language Film

A film based on one of the available drama or documentary categories i.e. 'adventure' with the primary use of a foreign language throughout. The film should still fulfil each of the criteria specific to the chosen genre and should also include:
 
  • Use of a specific foreign language
  • Subtitles
