Travelchoice Week

Travelchoice had a Thankyou campaign in September 2007 to celebrates the positive impact walkers, cyclists, car sharers and bus and rail passengers had on Peterborough's environment. Each year they save the city from over 35,000 tonnes of CO2, enough to fill over 8,144 hot air balloons.

To launch the week a hot air balloon, representing just one of these 8,000 plus balloons, took flight from the Embankment on Thursday 13, September.

At the start of the week Travelchoice thanked rail commuters with a free cup of coffee. In a single year they save the city from more than 7,000 tonnes of CO2, the equivalent of 1,711 hot air balloons full.

  • Visit National Rail to find out about train travel to and from Peterborough.

Travelchoice were also located at various cycle routes and at cycle parking locations across the city, giving out reflective armbands and eco-friendly bike oil to cyclists. Cyclists save the city from nearly 5,000 tonnes of CO2 each year, about 1,154 hot air balloons full.

Car Share-Travelchoice week
For thanking Car Sharers we were at car parks in the city centre
and at local businesses with dedicated car share bays, where car sharers were given a box of matchmaker chocolates to share on their journey home. Peterborough's car sharing commuters save
the city from over 4,000 tonnes of CO2 each year, enough to fill
949 hot air balloons.

  • Register with Share It to find someone to share your journey with.

To thank people who make their journeys on foot, Travelchoice were at key walking routes throughout the day to offer walkers personal radios to keep them entertained on their daily journeys. Walkers save more than 8,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the city's environment each year, enough to fill 1,861 hot air balloons.

  • Plan your route to work, school or the shops on foot using our online map of walking, cycling and bus routes.
