Roles of area team workers
Your Young People's Service staff covers many roles.
We hope the following descriptions will help you identify the correct person you need to speak to:
A universal personal adviser
provides information, advice and guidance
services to young people to help them realise their full potential
by engaging in learning, personal development and employment
opportunities, and to promote their social inclusion as they move
to adulthood. This is generally delivered through guidance
interviews.
An intensive personal adviser
provides support, information, advice and
guidance to young people, who are, or who are at risk of becoming
disengaged and supports them in overcoming barriers. This is
generally delivered through 1:1 interviews and support
sessions.
A Connexions information adviser provides
frontline advice for young people in the
city covering a wide range of issues.
We offer 1:1 interviews for young people aged 16 - 19
looking for information on CV's, Education, Work, Training and
Benefits. We also provide information on a range of other services
available to young people. We would be your first point of contact
at the Connexions centre based in Central Library.
A community based youth worker is responsible for
the development, planning, delivery and maintenance of high quality
youth work provision that raises achievement and promotes inclusion
of young people within an agreed geographical location. This is
generally delivered through informal groupwork and structured
development programmes.
A curriculum specialist youth worker is
responsible for the development, planning, delivery and maintenance
of high quality youth work provision within a curriculum specialism
often linked to PSHE programmes or specific topical issues
e.g. community cohesion, racial intolerance. This is
generally delivered through structured group work and/or
partnership input within a collapsed day or project period in
school.
An additional needs personal adviser provides
support, assessment, information and guidance to young people with
learning difficulties and complex disabilities to enable them to
access learning and realise their potential.
A positive activities keyworker works
with, supports and re-engages targeted young people (8 - 19)
throughout the year, who are participants in targeted positive
activity programmes (during school holidays) or identified as being
at particular risk against the targeted programme criteria. This is
generally delivered through work with the family, 1:1 or small
