Peterborough Homelessness Strategy
2008-2011
All Local authorities are required to
produce a Homelessness Strategy by the Homelessness Act of 2002.
This is Peterborough's second Homelessness Strategy.
The strategy identifies the nature of
homelessness in Peterborough, the level and type of unmet need in
the city, and the plans to meet these needs. The strategy sets out
how Peterborough aims to build uponit's strategic approach in terms
of the delivery of the homelessness services. The process of
preparing this strategy began by undertkaing a review of our
achievements against the previous strategy - we are
proud that we have achieved the majority of the targets set and
have developed and implemented a number of projects which are
contributing to our reduction in homelessness presentations and
acceptances.
The draft Peterborough Homelessness Strategy
sets out homelessness issues and priorities for the city and
provides a strategic framework for future investment and
management.
The draft strategy proposes seven priorities
:
1.To have clear procedures for information sharing and data
monitoring as a tool for homelessness prevention
2. To ensure the availability of appropriate accommodation
in line with current and future levels of demand
3. To promote the provision, development and review of
support services and advice to ensure that it is accessible and fit
for purpose.
4. To prevent homelessness and reduce levels of
homelessness against the main causes for presentations through
evidence based research and resource allocation
5. To increase the proportion of homeless households who
have access to health related services and those services which
promote healthy living.
6. To increase the proportion of homeless households who
have access to education training and employment.
7. To offer a range of housing options and advice for
people seeking accommodation in the Peterborough area and improve
access to those Options.
