Logo for Peterborough Safeguarding Children BoardAdvice for youngsters

It's important that all children feel safe whether at home, at school or out and about in the local area and most children do.

Sometimes children and young people need help from Professional people like the Police, Teachers, Social Workers, Doctors or Nurses to help them feel safe and happy.

How can you keep you and your friends safe
  • Do not talk to strangers
  • Do not take gifts from people you do not know
  • Tell someone you trust if someone is making you feel uncomfortable
  • Shout loudly if someone is asking you to do something you are not happy about
  • Never leave home without telling your parents or the people caring for you where you are going
  • If you go out with your friends make sure you stay together even if you fall out

How can you get advice that will help you if you are unhappy?
If you know an adult that you feel you can trust, tell them that you are unhappy and what's worrying you. They will know what to do and will help you.

You can ring the Children's Services and tell them what you are worried about and they will be able to help you and also help the person who is making you unhappy.

You may want to ring a helpline that is just for Children such as Childline or the NSPCC Helpline. The NSPCC Helpline has a textline for children with hearing difficulties.
