A man repaid more than £3,100 to Peterborough City
Council after he was caught claiming housing and council tax
benefit to which he was not entitled.
John Horton (66) of Thistle Drive, Stanground, Peterborough,
admitted two charges of failing to declare his correct
circumstances at a hearing at Peterborough Magistrates Court on
Friday (15 February)
Horton had failed to declare an occupational pension when
claiming benefits.
The court heard a computerised matching service had revealed
Horton was in receipt of the pension. Officers from the city
council's fraud investigation team interviewed Horton and he repaid
all of the benefits to which he was not entitled.
The court heard Horton was overpaid £2,420.80 in housing
benefit and £757.43 in council tax benefit.
Magistrates ordered Horton to pay £60 costs and he was
granted an absolute discharge.
Anyone wishing to report suspicions of benefit fraud can call
the city council's hotline in confidence on (01733) 452250 or
e-mail fraud@peterborough.gov.uk.
Ends.
