Breeding
The keeping of dogs for breeding is controlled by the Breeding
of Dogs Act 1973 and The Breeding and Sale of Dogs
(Welfare) Act 1999.
No person may keep an animal breeding establishment without
first obtaining a licence from the Local Authority.
A breeding establishment for dogs is a premises where a person
carries out a business of breeding dogs for sale (whether by
him/her or any other person).
Conditions
Licences are renewable annually. On applying for
your first licence we will arrange for the inspection
of the dogs and premises by a veterinary surgeon to ensure the
welfare of the animals and that the accommodation is
suitable. You must also follow conditions that relate to the
management of the premise and disease prevention and
control.

A licence will not be issued if the applicant has been
disqualified under any of the following acts,
- The Breeding of Dogs Act 1973
- The Breeding and Sale of Dogs Act 1999
- The Pet Animals Act 1951
- The Protection of Animals (Amendment) Act 1954 from having the custody of animals
- Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963
Apply
To apply for the licence you will need to,
- comply with the licence conditions
- complete the application form (27 KB, 2 pages) (for both new and renewal)
- pay the licence fee
Fees

You will also have to pay additional costs for the Authority's
vet to come out and inspect your premises and horses.
