The Cambridgeshire Local Business Partnership will be hosting a business breakfast called 'Better Regulation, Better Business' aimed at small to medium sized companies at Orton Hall, in Peterborough, on Thursday 10 April.

The event has been organised to inform businesses how local and central government are simplifying and improving legislation to reduce the burden on them. In addition, it will give people the ideal opportunity to find out more about the significant investment and regeneration plans for the city, and how this could positively impact on the local business community.

The breakfast conference is free to attend and will include a free breakfast for delegates. Trevor Gibson, director of environment and community services at Peterborough City Council and chairman of Cambridgeshire Local Business Partnership, will officially welcome delegates at 8.30 am before breakfast is served at 8.40 am. Speakers will include Karen Hill, Better Regulation Executive, and Steven Bowyer, from Opportunity Peterborough. There will be an exhibition, networking opportunities and workshops from 10 am to 12 noon.

Mr Gibson said: "This breakfast event provides the perfect opportunity for members of the business community to find out about updates to business legislation, listen to a range of speakers and ask any questions they may have about regulatory issues.

"There will time for delegates to visit the exhibition and talk with regulatory and advisory agencies who will be there on the day. In addition, this free event provides the perfect networking opportunity, as well as giving people an insight into the work of the local business partnership."

The Cambridgeshire Local Business Partnership is a group of regulators, business associations and support services which aims to:

  • Enable regulators to work more closely, pooling resources and sharing expertise
  • Provide a forum for interaction between the regulatory community and the business community in order to raise awareness and obtain feedback
  • Provide easy access to information on regulatory issues and the local business partnership
  • Provide quality advice and support to business on a whole range of regulatory issues

The group comprises representatives from Business Link East, regulators throughout Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, including Environmental Health and Trading Standards, the Environment Agency, Institute of Directors, Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Small Business, Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs, Health & Safety Executive, Job Centre Plus and Cambridgeshire Fire Service.
