Peterborough City Council will say a fond farewell to its
superintendent registrar Janet Elliott when she retires at the end
of March.
Friends and colleagues will join her in the Mayor's Parlour on
Friday 28 March, from 4 pm to 6 pm, to recognise her distinguished
career and the Mayor, Councillor Marion Todd, will make a formal
presentation.
Janet joined the city council as a registrar in 1986 and was
promoted to superintendent registrar five years later. When she
started, the registration service occupied a mobile building on
Thorpe Road before moving to its purpose built home. Staff numbers
have almost trebled since those early days, reflecting the growing
range of services the department offers.
During this time, whether it's been a birth, marriage or
death, Janet and her team will have provided a first-class
professional service for the city's residents. She will have been a
familiar face at hundreds of marriages and dozens of civil
partnership ceremonies, as well as organising the recently
introduced citizenship ceremonies.
"Janet will be sorely missed when she retires on Monday after
such a long and distinguished career," said Councillor Todd.
"During my year of office I have had the pleasure of working with
her on the citizenship ceremonies and was able to see at first-hand
what a first-class job she does for the city. I wish her a very
happy retirement and know that I speak for her colleagues and her
friends when I say that we will be very sad to see her
go."
To find out more about wedding ceremonies, or any other
services offered by the register office, telephone (01733) 566323
or visit www.peterborough.gov.uk/reg
where it is possible to take a virtual tour of the office.
Ends.
