About the Festival
"We must remember that arts and
culture can be a major player in the growth and development the
city and we rely on your support to continue animating Peterborough
with the exciting experience of Festival." Joseph Ballard,
Festival Manager
The Peterborough Festival, now in its ninth year, has engaged
and entertained hundreds of thousands of people promoting
Peterborough as a great destination with something special to
offer.
This year's indulgent theme of 'summer fantasy' has been
interpreted in many different ways for the Festival and the Mayor's
Festival Procession has adopted 'dreams, magic and fantasy' to
explore it further.

"This year's Festival is the most diverse yet with an
extraordinary array of different activities and art-forms on offer.
From the community focus of the Central Park Weekend and the Parade
that puts the people of Peterborough in the heart of the
celebrations, to the open-air concerts that will attract visitors
from near and afar, I would like to wish you an enjoyable Festival
and start to the summer."
Councillor Matthew Lee,
Cabinet Member for Community Services

"The Festival is the city's largest event
and last year nearly 2,000 people took part in
activity and it was enjoyed by thousands more. I very pleased
with this year's partnership with the BIG Dance Project when we can
experience the awe-inspiring Hofesh Schecter dance company right in
the city centre. Another gem will be the 'Hydromania!' event taking
place on the Friday - and it is great to welcome International
artistes such as Avanti Display to share their work in our
wonderful city.
We must remember that arts and culture
can be a major player in the growth and development the city and we
rely on your support to continue animating Peterborough with the
exciting experience of Festival."

History
The Peterborough Festival originated from the city's Cathedral
Festival, the first one marking the eve of the Millenium in 1999.
The thematic Festival began in 2004 with 'Italia', followed by
'Flags of all Nations' in 2005 and 'Global Summer' in 2006, which
marked a UK-first by streaming in performance work and
animation from Atlanta, Salford University (our tech
partners), Cuba, Australia and Japan.
Check out our archive of last
year's Festival (2007: Myths & Legends) to find out more about
it.
The Schools' Involvement Programme
Each year, the Festival embraces school projects to enhance
both curricular and non-curricular activity. There are many shools
involved with the Festival programme, including those supported by
the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce for the Mayor's Festival
Parade.
