Registration Scrap Metal Dealer
 
It is an offence to operate a Scrap Metal business that has not been registered with the local authority.
 
You must register with Peterborough City Council if,
 
  1. you occupy a place in the authority as a scrap metal store
  2. if you do not have a scrap metal store in the authority, your usual place of residence is in the authority
  3. if you do not have a scrap metal store, but occupy a place in the city wholly or partly for the purposes of the business

The conditions require all scrap metal dealers to,
                       
  • be registered
  • maintain appropriate records of purchase and disposal
  • require identification checks for vendors and purchasers
  • allow the Police right of entry to premises and the right of search without a warrant
 
You must notify us of any changes affecting your registration within 28 days of the changes taking place.

To register you will need to,
                       
  • complete the application form (25 KB, 1 page) (for both a new registration and renewal)
 
If you are considered fit you will be issued with a registration certificate that is valid for three years.  
 
 
Fees
 
No fee is required to make an application or to register your scrap metal business.
