A group from Thera East Anglia will be working with
Peterborough City Council's street wardens to plant summer bedding
at the Lido swimming pool in Bishops Road tomorrow (Thursday 8 May)
at 10 am.
The planting of summer flowers is an annual activity, which
the street wardens co-ordinate in preparation for the Lido's grand
opening each year. This year, the Lido will open for the first time
on Saturday 24 May.
Shirley Leaman, team leader at Thera East Anglia, said:
"Everyone is really excited about tomorrow's planting activity at
the Lido. People of all ages will be taking part and they are all
really looking forward to the opportunity to get their hands dirty.
As a group, we are always looking for opportunities to get involved
in community based projects. If anyone has a project they need help
with, please contact me at Shirley.Leaman@thera.co.uk
and we can discuss how best we can all work together."
The Thera Group supports people with learning disabilities,
physical and sensory disabilities and mental health needs in their
homes and in their local community. Thera East Anglia is based in
Bridge Street. More information about Thera can be found at www.thera.co.uk
Thera East Anglia became involved in this year's planting
activity at the Lido following a visit from the street wardens to
their Bridge Street offices, to deliver a safety talk. In past
years, the Junior Streetwardens from Bishop Creighton School have
undertaken the summer bed planting at the Lido. Unfortunately, due
to tests and other school commitments they are unable to join in
with the planting this year.
Dave Thomas, street warden supervisor at Peterborough City
Council, said: "The street wardens really enjoy working on valuable
projects like this within the city centre community. It's great to
be involved in such a good example of positive partnership working,
especially when it enhances the local environment for the public to
enjoy as the summer approaches."
Ends.
