Primary schools urged to join recycle week relay race
Primary schools in Peterborough are being
invited to sign-up to a special "recycling relay race" and suppport
the national Recycle Week from Monday 2nd - Friday 6th June.
Pupils participating in the recycling relay
race competeto sort a range of household materials and place them
into appropriate bin to be recycled. Peterborough City
council's community engagement officers will visit individual
schools throughout the week to deliver a talk and organise the
recycling relay.
Organiser kirsty martin said: "The recycling
relay game is great for explaining to children the importance of
recycling as many hosuehold materials as possible. children
are great ambassadors for the recycling message and we hope they
will inform other family members about what they learn".
Recycle Week is organised by the national Recycle Now campaign, which
is delivered by Wrap (Waste
and Resources Action Programme) on behalf of the government.
launched in 2004 the campaign aims to raise levels of recycling and
minimise the amount of biodegradeable waste buried in landfill
sites.
