Interim Sustainable School Travel Strategy
In recent years there has been a growing awareness of the links between education provision and transport. Coupled with this, there has been greater environmental awareness and a desire to achieve sustainability in transport and education policies and provision. This is all set against a background of increasingly complex educational travel demands.
The Education and Inspections Act, 2006, places a duty on Local Authorities (LAs) to promote the use of sustainable travel and transport on school journeys. To fulfil this, the Act requires all LAs to develop a strategy for developing the sustainable transport infrastructure, alongside the existing School Travel Plan Strategy, so that it better meets the needs of children and young people in their area.
