Improving our service based on Your Feedback

We listen to your feedback, and have made changes to improve our service based on some of your suggestions. If you have a comment or suggestion to make about the Building Control service, please contact us.

"We want to get through to you more quickly when we phone."
 
  • All Building Control Staff have direct line phone numbers - so you can get straight through to them. All our correspondence gives you both the name, phone number and email address of the Officer who can best help with any queries.

 

"We want you to reply to our letters more quickly."
 
  • We aim to reply to all letters within 10 working days and we monitor letter responses to make sure our promise is kept

 

"We want to request inspections when it is convenient to us - when we are working all day it would be more convenient to contact you in the evenings."
 
  • Our Admin office are available to take your calls between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm we now provide an answer machine outside office hours so you can leave a message whenever it suits you - and we will deal with it first thing on the next working day.

 

"If I need to contact an surveyor urgently there is no way to do so once they have left the office. Why can't they carry mobile phones?"
 
  • All our surveyors now have mobile phones and can be contacted throughout the day. To ensure they are not distracted unnecessarily however we ask that you ring the Admin office first who will try to help you directly. If we cannot assist you can contact the appropriate Building Control Surveyor direct. However please remember that our Surveyors are not permitted to answer phones when driving, but providing your number is displayed on their phones they will attempt to ring you back as soon as possible.

 

"How do we find out what to do after the application is approved - could you provide some information on what we are supposed to do next?"
 
  • We now send out a simple document which will tell you what to do, when to contact us, and who to contact.

 

"I want to pay less for your service."
 
  • We are legally required to charge enough for the service to cover all our costs - the service cannot be subsidised by the Council. Our feedback from customers is that they do not wish to see charges reduced if the level of service suffers, but we are constantly seeking ways to ensure the best balance between cost and service.

 

"We should be able to get information about Building Control outside office hours."
 
  • This web site is specifically tailored to providing information which you can access from home, work, libraries or other internet access point 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
