1. Is my child eligible for free school transport?

To qualify for free school transport your child must live in the Peterborough City Council area and fulfil all of the following criteria:
  • Attend the nearest or designated school, which had places available at the time of application.
  • Live beyond the specified walking distance - 2 miles for primary pupils and 3 miles for secondary pupils.
  • The child is at least in the school year in which he/she will attain his/her fifth birthday.

If you do not meet the above criteria and your child is entitled to free school meals, or your family is in receipt of their maximum level of Working Tax Credit you will need to complete a different application form (Transport Application for Low Income Families).

2. What happens if my child changes school or we move house?

You must notify the Integrated Passenger Transport Unit immediately to check if you are still eligible for help with transport. If your child no longer requires his or her bus pass, please return it to the Integrated Passenger Transport Unit.

3. I am not sure if my child is eligible for free school transport?

If you are not sure whether your child is entitled to free school transport please telephone 01733 747474 and ask to speak to the Integrated Passenger Transport Unit.

Note to parent/carer: If you have a permanent disability which prevents you from taking your child to school, then your child may be eligible for transport assistance.  Please contact the Transport Officer, Children's Service on 01733 863970.
