1. Is my child eligible for Post 16
transport?
To qualify for Post 16 transport your child must live in the Peterborough City Council area and fulfil all of the following criteria:
- Enrolled on a full-time course (i.e. a minimum 15 taught hours per week) at sixth form centre either in school or college.
- Under the age of nineteen at the beginning of the educational year, i.e. by 31 August, or continuing a course started whilst aged under 19.
- Not receiving an award under the terms of the Student Support (Loans & Fees) awards.
- the distance between their family home and the nearest appropriate centre is 5 miles or over, measured by the shortest available unimpeded walking route, or 3 miles if in receipt of Income Support or income-based Job Seekers' Allowance.
Nearest Centre
The 'nearest appropriate centre' is the nearest centre able to
offer the main essentials of the course you need as far as higher
education and/or career outcomes are concerned.
Your child can choose between different types of courses such
as a general education course, e.g. GCE A level, or vocational
courses such as GNVQ/BTEC/AVCE. These courses lead to a differing
range of career outcomes, although the qualification gained is
sometimes comparable and can lead to the same career outcome.
If your child chooses an A level course please note that
the A level itself is the course and not any particular
combination of subjects. Similarly with GNVQ/BTEC/AVCE courses,
where, if the level and vocational area required is available at
your nearest centre, transport will not be provided to a more
distant centre for particular combinations of Option Units and/or
Additional Units.
N.B. Please note that if your child chooses a centre,
which is not the 'nearest appropriate centre' to your family home,
you will be responsible for the transport arrangements and
costs.
2. What is the parental contribution for Post 16
transport?
The contribution (which is subject to a yearly review) is as follows:
£138 half year payment per family for a return journey
£138 per year per family for a one way journey
£276 per year per family for a return journey

transport?
Free transport is available for your child if she/he meets the criteria listed above in 1 AND:
- Your family is receiving Income Support or income based Job Seeker's Allowance OR
- She/he has a brother or sister for whom you are paying a contribution for transport for post 16 transport (only one contribution is made per family).
Please provide documentary evidence of receipt of benefit. You
