Students' success recognised at presentation day

Young people who attend Peterborough City Council's Honeyhill Centre in Paston, Peterborough, are to receive awards at a presentation day at the centre on Thursday 26 June at 11 am.

Students from the centre, which is part of Peterborough City Council's Pupil Referral Service, will receive their records of achievement and various other awards to mark their departure from full-time education.

Students at the centre, who were not in mainstream school or were at risk of being excluded, have the opportunity to study a full range of GCSE courses, unit awards, practical courses in subjects such as motor vehicle mechanics and hair and beauty, and Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) youth life skills awards.

They also have the opportunity to undertake work placements.

Councillor Stephen Goldspink, Cabinet member for Education and Children Services, said: "The Pupil Referral Service has been very successful in turning around the lives of young people in Peterborough.

"This ceremony is a great way to recognise all the students' hard work."

The Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Pat Nash, and the deputy mayoress, are among the invited guests.

Peterborough City Council's Pupil Referral Service (PRS) provides education for pupils who are not in mainstream school or are in danger of being excluded. The service was established in September 2004 and provides support for more than 300 children and young people at any one time across the city.

PRS service includes the Honeyhill Centre in Paston, Fletton Student Support Centre in Fletton, the Riverside Centre in Woodston and Peterborough Learning Education Achievement and Partnership (LEAP) programme, which is run in partnership with Perkins Engines.
