Peterborough City Council's information and communications
technology (ICT) training team has been awarded an A grade for the
way it delivers an internationally recognised computer
qualification.
It follows an annual audit looking at the way staff deliver
the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification.
The ECDL is the fastest growing IT user qualification in more
than 125 countries. It is designed for people who want to gain a
benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to develop
their IT skills and enhance their career prospects.
It is the second time the city council's ICT training team has
attained an A grade in the ECDL audit carried out by the British
Computer Society, which is the governing body for ECDL in the
UK.
The audit consists of a stringent examination of the council's
testing records and procedures to ensure the council complies with
all of the ECDL rules and regulations.
The city council's ICT training section is one of only a few
locally registered test centres offering testing for both ECDL and
Advanced ECDL in all four modules - word processing, spreadsheets,
databases and presentations.
Anita Lobb, training centre manager for Peterborough City
Council, said: "Although we primarily offer testing for
Peterborough City Council staff we can also test external
candidates.
"Candidates can contact us individually or as a group. A large
number of staff from a High Street bank in Peterborough have now
successfully completed their qualifications in this way. The latest
group of delegates are travelling from Norfolk to take their ECDL
Advanced tests with us."
The ICT training centre also provides an extensive range of
training courses for anyone who needs to increase their IT skills.
The centre specialises in providing training courses to
specifically suit the needs of customers and regularly meets
individuals or managers to discuss their exact requirements to
design and deliver training courses tailor made for them.
Cabinet member for efficiency and business improvement,
councillor Sheila Scott, said "The ICT training team prides itself
on providing an excellent customer service and do their utmost to
ensure our delegates are successful. I am thrilled that our efforts
have been recognised in this way."
