The SaferPeterborough Partnership Plan summary 2008-11
Message from the Chair of the Safer Peterborough Partnership
"Safer Peterborough is a new partnership made up of several
local organisations, all determined to reduce crime and the fear of
crime in our city.
"You have told us that you are worried about crime and
anti-social behaviour, and we have listened to your concerns. Based
on your feedback, we have chosen five key areas we will concentrate
on over the coming three years.
"These five areas are serious acquisitive crime, anti-social
behaviour, domestic violence, violent crime including
alcohol-related crime and disorder, and sexual offences.
"Of course, for all the agencies involved in Safer Peterborough, business also goes on as usual, but as a partnership we want to make a particular difference in these key areas.
"Of course, for all the agencies involved in Safer Peterborough, business also goes on as usual, but as a partnership we want to make a particular difference in these key areas.
"We hope that by focusing on the things that will improve life
for most people in the city, as well as supporting those who need
it, we will see some positive changes.
"All of the organisations involved in Safer Peterborough are
working hard together to make sure we deliver on our promises and
make Peterborough an even better place in which to live, work and
visit."
Chris Strickland
Assistant Chief Fire Officer
The Safer Peterborough Partnership
There are lots of organisations working hard to improve the
safety of people in Peterborough. We need these organisations to
work well together if we are to deliver on our promises.
These organisations must think about how community safety will
be affected every time they make a decision. As well as these
responsible authorities, other members of the partnership include
the Probation Service; Cross Keys Homes on behalf of housing
providers such as housing associations; Victim Support; Bridgegate
Drug Agency; Drinksense; Peterborough Racial Equality Council; HMP
Peterborough and many other voluntary and community
organisations.
We will focus our activity and our Weeks of Action on the most vulnerable neighbourhoods in our city. Weeks of Action are where people from different organisations work together in an area to make a positive difference to that community.
How we will improve
Each of our five priorities will have what is known as a 'task
and finish' group, bringing together the people who can make a real
difference and tackle the issues concerned.
These people will use their experience to draw up an action
plan that will set out clearly what they are going to do and when
they are going to do them.
These action plans will be closely scrutinised by a 'delivery
board' which will make sure that the action plans are delivered
successfully.
The delivery board will also look at the things that are
working really well and make sure that we use these ideas in other
areas.
We will make these plans available on our website:
www.peterborough.gov.uk/saferpeterborough
www.peterborough.gov.uk/saferpeterborough
We will monitor a certain number of 'indicators' which will
tell us how we're doing.
We work out our current performance and set ourselves a target
for improvement.
For example, we want more people to tell us if they have been a victim of a sexual offence so this improvement target will be for an increase. On the other hand, we want there to be less serious acquisitive crimes so this target will be for a reduction.
Every month we will look at how we are doing and, if
necessary, change our activities to make sure we reach our
targets.
Communicating with you
It is important that we keep you up to date with what we are
doing.
We will use the following methods to keep you informed of our
progress:
- Through a number of web pages at www.peterborough.gov.uk/saferpeterborough
- In the council's magazine, Your Peterborough
- At two 'face the public' events every year
- Through the local media for specific issues
- Through direct communications activity during our regular 'Weeks of Action'
Next steps
We will revise our plan every year, taking into account how
the picture of crime has changed in the city, and whether your
priorities have changed.
