Peterborough City Council's four star benefits service has
been commissioned to manage Luton Borough Council's service to help
improve its efficiency and effectiveness.
By working with other authorities Peterborough City Council
has already benefited by bringing in over £300,000 of
additional income to the council this year.
Peterborough City Council's benefits service was rated as
'excellent' by government inspectors, for the second year running,
in December.
The Benefit Fraud Inspectorate (BFI), which is part of the
Department for Work and Pensions, officially assessed the service
as 'excellent'. The result feeds into the council's overall three
star Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) rating.
Quicker processing times for the payment of benefit claims,
improved liaison arrangements with landlords and an efficient fraud
investigation team were among the areas which made a significant
contribution to the excellent rating.
Councillor Sheila Scott, cabinet member for efficiency and
business improvement, said: "Peterborough's benefits team is
recognised as one of the best in the country. I am delighted that
its excellent reputation has led to us to be called in to give
expert advice to other authorities and share experiences and best
practice and generate income for the council."
Ends.
