People thinking about taking part in this year's Great Eastern
Run who need a little help to get them prepared for the big race
can go along to one of the free training evenings that are taking
place over the next few months at Esporta Health Club, Thorpe Wood,
Peterborough, with the next free session on Wednesday (6 August) at
7 pm.
Runners will take to the streets of Peterborough on 12 October
for the Great Eastern Run and fun run 2008 after the race returned
to the city's sporting calendar in 2006. Since then, runners of all
ages and abilities have embraced the event, making it the best race
in the region, ranked in the top 35 races in the country.
To help novice runners prepare safely for the run, training
evenings are taking place throughout the summer. Runners of all
abilities are welcome and will be supervised in groups by coaches
and experienced runners from local athletic clubs.
Each group will comprise of runners of a certain ability and
level of fitness and there will be no pressure; just helpful
advice, company and motivation.
The training evenings are free to attend and everyone taking
part will receive a free day pass to the Esporta Health Club,
Thorpe Wood, Peterborough, which can be used on any day. Esporta
has also offered the use of its changing rooms, bar and restaurant
for runners taking part in the training events.
The training evenings begin at 7 pm at Esporta Health Club
with a warm-up session, stretching and various group training runs
followed by a warm-down session. The next training evening will
take place on Wednesday (6 August), followed by sessions on 20
August, 3 and 17 September, and 1 October, taking runners right up
to race day.
