Families looking for fun over the Bank Holiday Weekend, Saturday 23 - Monday 25 August can find lots to entertain them at Peterborough Museum with its 'Heroes and Villains' event.
 
Visitors will be able to meet costumed characters from fact and fiction and meet the truth behind the legends, including Robin Hood, Dick Turpin and a recreated pirate. A small display tells the story behind some of our most famous fictional heroes including Batman and Indiana Jones, whilst there are activities for children including a competition to design their own superhero costume. The competition winner will get their costume made up for them to keep!
 
In addition an evil intergalactic visitor will be making its presence felt, with a certain famous science fiction monster making guest appearances throughout each day...
 
To tie in with the event Stuart Orme from the Museum will be exploring the sinister underworld of Victorian Britain with a free illustrated talk on the real Jack the Ripper on Saturday 23 August at 7.30pm. Places are limited on the talk are limited and early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. Due to the nature of the material the talk is strictly for adults only.
 
The event is to tie in with the Museum's current 'Crime and Punishment' exhibition which explores the history of crime in Britain using Peterborough stories. The popular hands-on exhibition runs until 9 November.
 
Stuart Orme, Museum Visitor Services & Marketing Manager for Peterborough City Council said 'What better way to spend a Bank Holiday than at the Museum, where there's lots to do for all the family come rain or shine? This event will provide an entertaining look at some of our most famous heroes and villains, and perhaps reveal the truth behind some of them.'
 
The 'Heroes and Villains' event is at Peterborough Museum from Saturday 23 August until Monday 25 August. The Museum is open 10am - 5pm on Saturday, 12noon - 4pm on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. Admission is free of charge.
