Green-fingered pupils from Fulbridge Primary School have been
rewarded for their floral efforts by the Mayor of Peterborough
Councillor Pat Nash in a hanging basket competition.
Councillor Nash was judging the city's first hanging basket
competition for the city's schools after pupils from 14 schools
created their own hanging baskets, which have adorned the Guildhall
in Cathedral Square during the summer months. Competition was stiff
for the top prize, but when the judging was over, Fulbridge Primary
School was placed first, with Peterborough High School placed
second and Newborough Primary School being awarded third
place.
Charlotte Palmer, environment and community partnership
officer, said: "Councillor Nash was really impressed with how hard
the pupils had worked to create their hanging baskets. It was the
first time we had invited schools to design their own hanging
basket and they all looked fantastic. They have added a splash of
colour to Cathedral Square and been admired by residents, city
centre workers and visitors to Peterborough. We hope the success of
this year's competition will mean it can become an annual
event."
Pupils were given a free rein and simply told to explore their
imaginations when it came to planting up their baskets. This has
resulted in a blaze of colour and a complete mixture of designs,
including wildlife friendly plants and vegetables, with the colours
of the mayor's emblem even being depicted through one design.
First placed Fulbridge Primary School scooped a £50
voucher to spend at Notcutts Garden Centre, with second and third
placed schools winning £25 vouchers each for their
efforts.
Ends.
