Peterborough City Council's street wardens will once again be
taking young people from the city on a day out airsofting today
(Wednesday 27 August).
The scheme, which pulls together opposing groups of young
people, aims to reward good behaviour, while teaching teamwork,
leadership skills and respect through organising an airsoft event
(similar to paintball). The initiative is run in partnership with
Nacro, an independent voluntary organisation working with young
people.
Dave Thomas, street warden supervisor for the city council,
said: "We've been involved in these type of events for a number of
years now and apart from helping us build stronger relationships
with the city's young people, it also is great fun. By rewarding
good behaviour, we can teach them mutual respect and
teamwork."
The street wardens supervise a group of around 25 at the
airsoft event, which is subsidised by airsoft company Freefire
Zone.
Ends.
Further information:
Airsoft is similar to paintball, but without the messy paint.
It is generally played in organised games called 'skirmishes'. A
skirmish most commonly consists of two teams, with each team having
specific mission objectives that must be completed for that team to
win. As with paintball, airsoft is played in both woodland and
close quarters environments at organised sites located around the
country.
