Seven weeks to go and more than 30 members of Werrington
Joggers have already signed up to Peterborough City Council's Great
Eastern Run on Sunday 12 October 2008, with more set to follow
their lead.
The Great Eastern Run has flourished since its return to the
city's sporting calendar thanks to the support of local running
clubs. Runners of all ages and abilities have embraced the event
making it the best race in the region and ranked in the top 35
races in the country.
"As a running club we were thrilled when it was announced that
the Great Eastern Run was returning to the city's sporting
calendar," said Tim Cook, chairman of Werrington Joggers. "It has
been great to be involved in helping to organise the event and for
our members to have a local half-marathon to compete in.
"Werrington Joggers welcomes anyone and everyone with an
interest in running regardless of age or ability, culture or creed,
male or female. Whether individuals are competitive or simply want
to run as a means of staying fit and healthy they are equally
welcome at Werrington Joggers."
The club was originally founded in September 1984 by seven
local runners, but now has a junior and senior membership which has
grown in excess of 150. It meets each Tuesday evening at the
Werrington Sports Centre, with sessions for juniors from 6 pm to 7
pm and for seniors from 6.45 pm.
Tim added: "After a brief communal warm up, we split into
groups for runs of various distances and speeds and there will
always be a group to suit your speed. If you are completely new to
running the club has a number of qualified coaches and they will be
happy to help and advise you.
"Each week, nominated coaches or experienced runners are
responsible for looking after new members, so on your first visit
just make yourself known to a Werrington Jogger and they will
introduce you to the nominated new runner representative"
