ECDL Advanced

Overview

The ECDL Advanced qualification is designed to progress the computer skills from the European Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL) to the next level of competence. It tests an individual's competence at a much higher level with particular applications

Qualifications and Progression

Unlike the ECDL which has contains 7 modules all of which you are required to pass to qualify for the ECDL certificate, the ECDL advanced has only 4 modules, each of which is certificated separately as stand alone qualifications.  Candidates who have successfully completed all four ECDL Advanced modules may apply for the ECDL Expert Certificate.

With ECDL Expert, candidates are eligible for: Associate Membership of the British Computer Society (AMBCS), guaranteed entry to HNC Information Technology with Management Skills, guaranteed entry to HNC Computing.

Syllabus

The syllabus can be found on the ECDL website.

Content

Currently in the UK,  the following ECDL advanced modules (endorsed by the British Computer Society ), are available

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Database
  • Presentation

Entry Requirements:

While it is not a prerequisite to pass the Core ECDL before taking the Advanced, we advise that you consider doing so, in order to benchmark your understanding of IT.   Candidates should have successfully completed the ECDL certificate or be able to demonstrate significant competence in the use of I.T.

Testing

At advanced level each of the 4 modules is examined independently. You receive a certificate for each successfully completed module. You do not need to study all 4 modules, just those that interest you.
Your exam is overseen by one of our trainers but the testing is not automated. Instead, we send your exam paper to the British Computer Society (BCS) for accreditation. They will mark it, usually within 3-6 weeks, and, if you pass, send your certificate.

Each test has a time limit of 60mins and the pass mark is 75%

Sample tests

There are no Practice Exams at Advanced Level. However, you can view, download and attempt, sample test papers for each module on the ECDL website.

Advanced testing is only available in Office 2003 at this test centre.
