Sports Strategy for
Peterborough
The Sports Strategy is founded on the desire to ensure that
everyone can participate in some way and at some level in sport,
both for their personal benefit and the benefit of the wider
Peterborough community.
A key belief underpinning this strategy is that culture and,
more particularly, the cultural opportunity provided through Sport
improves the quality of life for everyone and that everyone has a
right to participate in and benefit from
Sport.
The aim of this strategy is to set out a future direction and
vision for Sport in Peterborough. The strategy identifies the
major priorities, challenges and actions necessary to achieve this
future vision.
The Strategy aims to pull existing and new commitments into a
coherent framework in order to co-ordinate their implementation and
help those organisations involved in sport and physical recreation
to move in a common direction.
Across the East of England our partners are working hard to
deliver a regional plan to stimulate a 1% increase in participation
levels year on year and help widen access to sport and active
recreation. The implementation of this sports strategy is
Peterborough's contribution towards this objective.
By working together, and through the innovative approaches to
the planning, resources, promotion and delivery of sport, we can
all contribute towards building 'healthy communities' in which
people can thrive and prosper in 'a bigger and better
Peterborough'.
In this spirit we would like to invite you to read the Draft
Sports Strategy and share your comments.

Feedback
1. Are the key priorities right? Have we
missed any or are there any that don't make sense?
2. Have we addressed all
the key challenges? What else do we need to do in
future?
3. The strategy is
supported by a 5 year action plan. Regarding sports
facilities:
a. What balance should
there be between large central facilities and smaller more local
facilities?
b. What balance should
there be between facilities for organised sport and those for more
casual sport?
c. What balance should
there be between facilities for traditional sports and those for
newer sports such as extreme sports?
4. Who do we need to be
working with in future? Please put forward any organisations or
individuals who you think should be involved.
5. Please add any other
feedback or comments you have about the strategy or action
plan.
