Bushfield Community College has become the first secondary
school in the Peterborough area to be awarded a prestigious
national ICT award.
The Becta ICT mark reflects excellence and significant
progress in enhancing student achievement through the use of
information and communication technology (ICT).
A Becta assessor visited the college and tested its use of ICT
against a rigorous set of criteria focusing on teaching and
learning, assessment and leadership and management. The assessment
examined the evidence the college submitted for the ICT Excellence
Awards and observed lessons before meeting with key teaching and
associate college staff. Assessors also spoke to students and
governors about how they were responding to continuous ICT
development.
The ICT Excellence Awards is an awards scheme for schools,
which aims to identify and reward school excellence in ICT. Becta
leads a national drive to inspire and lead the effective and
innovative use of technology throughout learning. The organisation
aims to create an exciting, rewarding and successful experience for
learners of all ages and abilities enabling them to achieve their
potential.
Peterborough City Council's cabinet member for education and
children's services, Councillor Stephen Goldspink, said: "Bushfield
Community College's achievement in winning the Excellence Awards is
a testament to the hard work, passion and commitment it continues
to demonstrate in moving in a forward direction.
"While rewarding the school as a whole, there was a focus
within the awards on those individuals who led change within the
school and made an impact across it. I would like to congratulate
all those involved in this achievement."
Eric Winstone, head teacher at Bushfield Community College,
added: "The college not only met the criteria but surpassed it and
were asked to present a case study on the effective use of ICT to
aid student learning. We are looking forward to building upon the
already identified excellent practice to ensure students are better
prepared for the technological challenges they face in the modern
working environment once they leave the college."
