Christmas at the
Museum
Want to get the kids or visiting relatives out
of the house over Christmas? Want a cheap afternoon out during the
credit crunch? Then why not visit Peterborough Museum during the
weekends and school holidays, with a range of free, Christmas
themed activities for families.
The Museum's current exhibition 'A Feast of
Christmas' tells the story of festive traditions, most particularly
Christmas dinner and how it has changed over the centuries.
Visitors can peep into a Tudor banqueting hall to see table laid
with wild boar and peacock, or compare a 1970s dinner table with
trifle! There are also a series of fun family drop-in activities to
tie in with the exhibition. These include the chance to make your
own Victorian style Christmas card or decorations.
Still stuck for that last Christmas gift? Then
why not pop into the Museum shop, which has a range of unusual gift
ideas, from replica period pottery to stocking filler toys for the
children. The shop also stocks a wide range of books on local
interest and at the moment a range of general interest history
books with 20% off the cover price.
Stuart Orme, Museum Events & Marketing
Manager for Peterborough City Council says 'If you want some relief
from the rigours of Christmas shopping, or simply want somewhere to
take the family for an afternoon during the school holidays, then
the Museum and its Christmas exhibition is the ideal place to
be!'
