Peterborough City Council's solicitor Amy Brown has won the praise of legal experts for producing the best exam paper in the post graduate diploma in law. City council accountant Kirsty Nutton was also shortlisted for Accountant of the Year in the Accountancy Age Awards.

Amy beat off strong competition from about 30 other students to gain the highest mark in the final examination of the post graduate diploma in local government law run by The Law Society and The College of Law.

She will be awarded with a prize by The College of Law in front of students who have just begun the diploma at The Law Society headquarters, Chancery Lane, London, on Thursday 11 December 2008.

Shahin Ismail, head of legal services for Peterborough City Council, said: "I am extremely proud of Amy's achievements and I am pleased that all her hard work has been rewarded."

Kirsty, capital accounting manager for the city council, finished runner-up in the Accountant of the Year category at the Accountancy Age Awards. Kirsty was one of four people shortlisted for the award.

John Blair, the city council's head of strategic finance and performance improvement, said: "Although Kirsty did not win the award, when the judges announced the winner they gave a special message to her for her application.

"I am very proud of Kirsty's achievements and proud that she works for Peterborough City Council."
