Housing Strategy
The Housing Strategy Team assesses
the current and future housing needs of the city and is working to
ensure that the amount of affordable housing built in the city
increases substantially over the next few years. The team does
this by working with neighbouring local authorities, partner
housing associations and private developers. Each year a Local
Housing Strategy Statement is produced that sets out the issues
affecting the local housing market, issues of demand, supply and
affordability.
The Housing Strategy Team has responsibility
for the following functions:
- Production of the Council's Housing Strategy
- Monitoring the delivery of the Housing Strategy Action Plan
- Assessment of the need for affordable housing in the local housing market
- Publication of regular Housing Needs Assessments
- Managing relationships with housing associations to ensure the delivery of new affordable housing
- Working with private housing developers and Planning Officers to ensure the delivery of affordable housing on new private housing developments
- Contributing to the delivery of the Regional Housing Strategy and other associated regional documents and strategies
- Providing a policy and research function to the Council's Strategic Housing Division
The Council's Housing Strategy was
accepted as 'fit for purpose' (the Governments current quality
assessment process) in July 2004. This strategy will have a three
year life but its action plan will be updated each year. By

Housing Strategy Statement
The Strategy Team
are currently finalising work undertaken through consultants to
provide a much clearer understanding of the City's local housing
market. The model makes use of a range of data sources including
house prices, sales, census data and housing stock information and
will be able to present information through a GIS (Geographical
Information System). This work will allow officers to access
information at the neighbourhood level and will help direct future
housing investment to those areas where it is most
needed.
The Housing Strategy Team also produce the Sub-Regional Strategy
Statement
Housing Strategy are currently developing a
Shared Ownership scheme in Peterborough, working with many partners
involved in providing housing to develop a variety of homes that
are affordable for a range of people. An
increasingly popular way of meeting the need for affordable homes
is through Shared Ownership schemes.
