Dog & Cat Microchipping Service
Peterborough City Council Dog Warden Service provide
microchipping implantations, carried out by qualified and
experienced officers, for cats and dogs. Microchips are harmlessly implanted into an animal by using a
sterile injection needle and once in place will provide a unique
number to a microchip scanner if it is passed over the implantation
site area of the animal. This number than can be matched with
a database to give details of the registered pet owner. The
microchip itself is the size of a grain of rice.
The advantages are twofold. It will show ownership of a
pet to a registered owner and also if a dog goes missing and is
picked up by the Dog Warden Service then it can be re-united with
its owner even if it has lost its collar and tag, which is a legal
requirement.
The normal cost of microchipping, carried out in the owner's
home in the Peterborough area by the Dog Warden Service is
£30 per cat or dog.
To date the service have microchipped over 1,000 cats and dogs
and would like to encourage new and existing pet owners to take
advantage of this opportunity for having their pet implanted with a
microchip.
Any cat or dog, which has previously been inoculated and is
good health can be microchipped although for young dogs and
cats it is best to wait until they have had their initial
inoculations.
If you would like to take advantage of this microchipping day
