Dog Wardens Encourage Responsible Ownership

Dog Wardens in Peterborough will also encourage responsible dog ownership by:-

  • Offering reduced cost microchipping of Dogs (and Cats). The qualified and experienced officer will call to your house in the Peterborough area and carry out this simple implantation. The Microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and, when the dog is scanned by a hand held device carried by dog wardens/vets, will give a unique number. This number will be held on a database with the owner's details. If there was ever a dispute about the ownership of the pet or it became lost without a collar and tag, this permanent identification system will always hold owner's details.

  • Provision of Free dog fouling bags throughout Peterborough. Although responsibility for providing fouling bags are the owners responsibility, we have teamed up with our Education Department to provide free fouling bags for dog owners.

  • Talks and presentations. We provide talks on dog behaviour and welfare to a variety of groups of people, such as Rotary Clubs.

  • Bite back deterrent sprays (Companies and organised bodies only). This is a deterrent spray that will deter aggressive dogs from attacking. The spray itself is harmless and approved for use on dogs. We can supply these sprays at a sensible cost along with a behavioural talk which will help you to understand when and when not to use it.

  • Educational talks to schools. The Education Department at Peterborough City Council are concerned about dogs being allowed onto school property and also being allowed to foul around school areas. We will provide educational talks to schools on dog-related matters including Responsible Dog Ownership and welfare. Our belief is that young persons will fully understand the commitment of dog ownership in their family or later on when they have a pet of their own. Also, it is a chance to meet a dog warden and to dispel some myths about how we carry out dog control measures and duties.

  • Advice on all aspects of dog ownership. A dog is always an owner's responsibility but we can offer advice to help you where possible.
